The Challenge
The UX groups at Walt Disney Animation and PIXAR Studios were requested to develop StoryPad, an iPad application designed for over 100s of storyboard artists. StoryPad's focus is to simplify the process of storyboarding animated films via real-time collaboration with directors and editors, while promoting unrestricted creativity while on the go.
The Process
Collaborated with the Tech divisions at Walt Disney Animation Studios to conceptualize and refine the features and functions of StoryPad. Brainstorming sessions, sketching, and rapid prototyping were employed to investigate varied ideas and fine-tune the design.
Utilized Agile methodology, converting the envisioned concepts into practical layouts and operational mockups. Multiple design iterations were carried out, taking into account user insights and implementing design enhancements at every phase. The Academy-Award winning drawing technology from Meander was merged to facilitate a seamless and lively drafting experience.
Conducted multiple rounds of usability testing with Storyboard artists to validate the app's usability, effectiveness, and overall user experience. Their feedback was carefully incorporated into the design, refining the app's functionality, interface, and collaboration features.
Worked intricately with code makers to actualize the ultimate layout, confirming flawless fusion of Meander's Technology with prime efficiency. Thorough examination was undertaken to manage any technical glitches & system malfunctions. Following this, StoryPad started its journey in the Walt Disney Animation Studios and PIXAR, paired with instructional and support materials for creators to wholly exploit its features.
Final Thoughts
StoryPad's success tackled the task of facilitating cooperative narration within Walt Disney Animation and PIXAR Studios. Thanks to user-focused research and progressive design, the app gave Storyboard designers a potent instrument to amplify their inventive process, fostering uninhibited cooperation and exchange of concepts.
By integrating Meander's vector sketching technology, the artistic journey was taken to new heights, while user trial and response guaranteed a polished, user-friendly platform. StoryPad has evolved into a priceless resource in the making of Disney's animated films, nurturing creativity, and sparking the upcoming era of narrative creation.
