Across Walt Disney Animation Studios and PIXAR, together, we designed and engineered a digital iPad application that brought the art-craft of storyboarding to a new digital age.
As part of our constant exploration to empower our artists, we created StoryPad, an app designed for the iPad, that allows our Storyboard artists to visually craft stories together. Watch how we collaborated to bring the studios, “StoryPad”, to life.

The Process
Concept Ideation
Collaborated with the Walt Disney Animation Studios Technology teams to generate ideas and conceptualize the features and functionality of StoryPad.
Brainstorming sessions, sketching, and rapid prototyping were utilized to explore different concepts and refine the vision.
Design & Development
Employed an agile approach, translating the conceptualized ideas into tangible designs and functional prototypes. Iterative design cycles were conducted, considering user feedback and incorporating design improvements at each stage.
Meander's vector drawing tech was integrated to provide a smooth and dynamic sketching experience.
Usability Testing & Iteration
Conducted multiple rounds of usability testing with Story artists to validate the app's usability, effectiveness, and overall user experience.
Their feedback was carefully incorporated into the design, refining the app's functionality, interface, and collaboration features.
Implementation & Launch
Collaborated closely with developers to implement the final design, ensuring seamless integration of Meander's Technology with optimal performance.
Extensive testing was conducted to address any bugs & technical issues.
StoryPad was then launched within the Walt Disney Animation Studios and PIXAR, accompanied by training and support resources for artists to fully leverage its capabilities.

StoryPad successfully addressed the challenge of empowering collaborative storytelling within Walt Disney Animation and PIXAR Studios. Through user-centric research and iterative design, the app provided Storyboard artists with a powerful tool to enhance their creative process, enabling seamless collaboration and exploration of ideas.
The integration of Meander's vector drawing technology elevated the artistic experience, while user testing and feedback ensured a refined and user-friendly interface. StoryPad has become an invaluable asset in the production of Disney's animated films, fostering creativity, and inspiring the next generation of storytelling.
